The Embedded Way: August 2007 LynuxWorks newsletter

Executive Voice

Robert Day,
Vice president, marketing

As the 20th Embedded Systems Conference opens, this is a good time for LynuxWorks™ to celebrate too. 2008 marks our 20th birthday.

2008 will be a year of technology innovation, with LynxSecure leading the way for embedded hypervisors, and with LynxOS® in its fifth generation offering symmetric multiprocessing support to a number of new multi-core processors. We are also giving our attention to the needs of the medical-device developers where software complexity is growing, but where performance, reliability, safety and security are key issues—all areas where LynuxWorks products excel.

I hope you enjoy reading about our latest products below, and see the exciting things that we are doing at the Embedded Systems Conference.

Here's to another 20 years of embedded excellence.

LynuxWorks in Your World

Embedded operating systems by LynuxWorks perform tirelessly in so many systems around the world whose reliability we count on, when only the best will do:

  • The successes of Tactiq Ltd. in the medical-electronics industry include developing and supporting GE Healthcare's most successful nuclear-medicine imaging system—the GENIE Acquisition system, with the LynxOS real-time operating system inside. Read the GENIE Acquisition case study
  • Wabtec, which manufactures a wide range of products for the rail and transit industry, announced that it is working with Wabtec Corporation on a technology-based product for the rail industry.

NEW! LynxOS Real-time Applications and Device Driver Programming Workshop

Get five days of hands-on labs in POSIX® programming and device-driver development for real-time systems running LynxOS®.

In response to industry demand, we've selected some of the best instructional materials from our training workshops and brought them all together in this new week-long course. Learn more about the course syllabus on our web site.

Our next session will be offered at our San José training center on June 9-13, 2008. To sign up, please contact our USA training coordinator at training-usa (at) lnxw.com or at 408-979-4353.

LynuxWorks at ESC Silicon Valley

Join LynuxWorks in San José, California at this year's Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley, April 15-17. There will be lots of excitement around the LynuxWorks booth.

Attend one or all of our ESC Conference Presentations

  • Optimizing Embedded Linux using HW/SW Co-Design
with Sonia Leal, (LynuxWorks), Navanee Sundaramoorthy (Xilinx), and David Pellerin (Impulse Accelerated Technologies, Inc.). [April 17]

Due to their constrained nature, Embedded Linux applications typically have to be optimized until they meet target requirements of throughput, responsiveness, availability or even security. With the availability of full Embedded Linux on configurable soft core processors, high level co-design tools can now be applied at the software application level instead of at the hardware or assembly level.

  • Eclipse—Up Close and Personal
with Robert Day, LynuxWorks VP Marketing [April 17]

Moderated by popular conference instructors, this free-form discussion is a great opportunity to swap ideas with your peers on common embedded development problems. The class focus depends on the attendees present and their interests.

  • Secure Systems Development Using the LynxSecure Separation Kernel
with Rance Delong, LynuxWorks Staff Scientist [April 18]

Perennial security problems seem to become ever more daunting as embedded computing becomes ubiquitous and the stakes rise for the defense of such systems. This class describes how LynxSecure supports the development of high-assurance secure systems and how developers can approach the system design and assurance activity.

Attend our exciting series of theater presentations!

  • BlueCat and FPGAs: Embedded Linux support for configurable processors
LynuxWorks will explore how configurable processors can ease application development via integration with hardware development tools, in addition to the cost benefits associated with programmable hardware.
  • The LynuxWorks Eclipse IDE: Luminosity 3
See how the latest version of the Luminosity embedded IDE embraces both the Eclipse framework and the Eclipse projects to offer a full-featured and modern embedded development system. With the addition of validated plug-ins to Eclipse, all the software development requirements from design to deployment are met with best-in-class products.
  • LynxSecure: Embedded hypervisor and virtualization
Learn how LynxSecure offers an embedded hypervisor and virtualization technologies to allow multiple operating systems to run securely on a single hardware system.
  • LynxOS and SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessing)
Learn how LynxOS 5.0 enables our customers to leverage the latest in multi-core hardware using SMP and bring in new features using the latest open standards in POSIX® and Linux to meet the complex requirements of the aerospace/defense, telecommunication and medical marketplaces.
  • LynxOS-178: the safety-critical RTOS
Explore LynxOS-178—the RTOS designed especially for safety-critical environments such as those found in the avionics, military and medical markets. We will also discuss the Lynx Certified Stack (LCS)—the richest, most complete, partition-aware, ARINC 664-capable, DO-178B level A-certifiable network stack on the market.
