LynxOS helps WavPort products meet development schedule and integrate seamlessly into carrier networks
ATLANTA, SUPERCOMM—June 5, 2001—LynuxWorks™ Inc., a provider of open-source and true real-time embedded solutions for the post-PC era, today announced, at SUPERCOMM, that it is facilitating carrier-grade scalability and reliability for Pulsar Communications. Pulsar selected LynxOS®, the commercially available, real-time operating system from LynuxWorks, because it meets the reliability and scalability requirements for Pulsar's WavPort suite of products.
LynxOS provides the foundation for Pulsar's carrier-grade offering. The first product in the suite, WavTalk, is entering market trials late this summer and will be ready for general availability in Q30l. The companies plan to demonstrate the product at SUPERCOMM tradeshow in booth number 8286.
Pulsar Communications develops applications and integrated solutions for both Tier 1 carriers and smaller emerging carriers. Pulsar's applications are integrated into a common-call control layer of a software platform, called WavPort, that enables a seamless delivery of products to subscribers of legacy switching networks, new generation networks that employ media gateways and servers and support Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) or H.248, and packet-based networks that support H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The company's Voice Activated feature server, and its complementary Web Portal, permit voice and Web activation of both Class 4 and Class 5 call control features and applications from wireline phones, wireless handsets, Personal Digital Assistant (PDAs) and computer terminals.
WavPort is the first and only voice-activated and Web-provisioned carrier-grade user interface that provides more intuitive access to local and long distance telephone services. Pulsar's WavTalk voice-enabled application services provide integrated, network-based, voice-activated dialing capabilities for carriers. Pulsar will continue to roll out new WavPort feature server platforms to correspond to product development with network convergence, market acceptance and new industry developments.
"We evaluated a number of competitive products over a series of three months, we selected LynxOS because of its response time, performance, scalability and the fact that it is POSIX® compliant," stated Chris Kingsley, vice president of product development for WavPort and its chief architect. "We are ahead of schedule due to using LynxOS as our development platform—the OS is so robust that we haven't needed support," he observed.
"We are pleased to supply a product that addresses the needs of a visionary telecom provider like Pulsar," stated Bob Morris, vice president of marketing at LynuxWorks. "Our commitment to our customers is to provide a stable, scalable and available foundation for embedded network applications. Pulsar's experience indicates that we are successfully delivering on that promise."
